Finding anti-sense drug for Glioblastoma
Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and most aggressive type of primary brain tumor, accounting for 52% of all primary brain tumor cases and 20% of all intracranial tumors. Despite being the most prevalent form of primary brain tumor, GBMs occur in only 2-3 cases per 100,000 people in Europe and North America. The standard WHO-2007 name for this brain tumor is “Glioblastoma"
Treatment can involve chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery, all of which are acknowledged as palliative measures, meaning that they do not provide a cure. Even with complete surgical resection of the tumor, combined with the best available treatment, the survival rate for GBM remains very low. However, many advances in microsurgery techniques, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are slowly increasing the survival time of patients diagnosed with glioblastoma [1].
- Go to http://www.genecards.org/

- Type glioblastoma in the search field. Keep the option search by "keywords".

- Select "RNA gene" option in search" within the following "category".

- Click on submit search.
- It will display number of genes related to disease glioblastoma, most important of which is "tag" gene.

- Microcards and mini cards are displayed on the page. Microcards give brief description and minicards in most of the cases give detailed description.

- Click on the "tag" gene. This will open a new window showing detailed description about "tag" gene and related websites.

- This page has various sections. To find alternative names for the gene go to services a list will open. Select aliases for "tag". Now on right side click uniprot/swissprot. New window will open. Type there "tag gene" it will display various matching result. Third option "Q02246" is the matching result which also show various synonyms used instead of "tag". These names are important as different databases use different names for same gene.

- Again go to "search" bar and select function. Click" jump to section" and go to "function for tag".

- First option in this section is RNAi. Click on the link Browse Invitrogen for RNAi.

- Select RNAi to knock down gene expression.

- We can find out pre designed RNAi and order them for use or we can design RNAi of our choice.

- To design RNAi of our choice click option design RNAi

- Give acc no: of that gene or nucleotide sequence.

- To get accession number go to "tag page".
- Click on uniprot/swissprot link. Swiss prot page will open. Go down to cross references and click on HGNC database link. New page will open click on Genbank and get accession number "28373120" or sequence.

- Paste sequence or accession number for RNAi.

- Click RNAi design. This will display RNAi sequence for disease causing gene for glioblastoma.

- In this way we can find RNA interference for our desired disease causing gene.
